Devonport Residence
An expansive modern family home that maintains heritage in one of Auckland’s oldest inner suburbs.
With sweeping views across north head, Auckland CBD and harbour, 57 Calliope Road presents a generous family home with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, perched atop a cliff on the southern shores of Devonport. The 400sqm house wraps around a northern courtyard and pool, with a contemporary yet classic aesthetic that remains in context with the surrounding villas.
Devonport is a popular suburb characterised by its heritage villas and old-world charm. When this non-heritage-listed site became available, we immediately recognised an opportunity to create a family home that would celebrate the best-loved features of this suburb, while offering modern design and more space than the typical Devonport villa.
The project presented some unique challenges, including our commitment to keeping the design aligned with the established aesthetic of the suburb. We also took particular care to highlight the impressive south-facing views, while orienting the house and outdoor living spaces to maximise the sun and light from the north.
